malbsMd secures second title with G2 in Singapore!
In the early hours of the morning for NA fans G2 achieved their latest title with Guatemalan prodigy, Mario "malbsMd" Samayoa, seeing the former M80 rifler help lead the charge alongside Ilya "m0NESY" Osipov and Nemanja "huNter-" Kovač as G2 absolutely dominated Spirit to secure a 3-0 grand finals victory at the BLAST Premier World Finals in Singapore. The title in Singapore is the second such title malbsMd has won since making the move from M80 to G2 back in late June, with "malbs" also winning the BLAST Premier Fall Finals back in September against NAVI.
G2's run through the BLAST Premier World Finals began with the team carving a path through Group B with wins over Liquid and Spirit to top the group and earn a spot straight into the semifinals. With this G2's next match came on Saturday with the team facing down Vitality in a close 2-1 series that ultimately saw G2 come out ahead thanks in large part due to a stellar performance from m0NESY on the AWP.
After that tough series against Vitality, the showdown against Spirit ended up being something of a non-event for malbsMd and co., with m0NESY and G2's rifling core all having fantastic performances while keeping Spirit off of double digits on all three maps, taking Mirage 13-7, Anubis 13-5, and Dust2 13-7.
With the win in hand, m0NESY was the clear MVP as the Russian AWPer had an utterly dominant tournament, ending it with a 1.35 rating over eleven maps. malbsMd however definitely deserves his fair share of kudos as he looked like an experienced pro only four months after being air-lifted into the tier-one scene. Samayoa finished the event with a 1.13 rating over eleven maps.
G2 and malbsMd's next port of call after the BLAST Premier World Finals is the Perfect World Shanghai Major EU RMR B, where malbs will look to continue making history as the first Guatemalan in CS history to qualify for a Major while also working to cement his status as Nikola "NiKo" Kovač's successor with the Bosnian rifler poised for a move to Falcons in 2025.
