Party Astronauts shock Nouns, M80 head back to EPL | ECL S48 Playoffs Round 3
It was a tough night for Party Astronauts and Nouns who struggled as they were another victim of the NA ESL Challenger League playoff DDoSing attacks. Nearly five players reported problems throughout the night as they remained powerless to stop the issues. It could have certainly had an impact on the match as PA somehow shocked everyone with their 2-1 victory over the signed lineup.
In other news, Wildcard were also eliminated from the playoffs at the hands of NRG who have had to make a strong lower-bracket run so far. Their elimination comes after some struggles with the roster all being able to play on a reasonable ping.
Finally, M80 claimed victory and a spot in the ESL Pro League playoffs with their victory of Legacy.
Legacy 1-2 M80
M80 were slow to start last night as Legacy came out with a shock win over the Americans on their own map pick. The Brazilians were even with M80 throughout the first half, but started to mount a solid defense that would propel them to the opening map win.
M80 would respond in kind as they were able to even it up on Legacy's pick of Mirage and then would continue that momentum into Ancient where they claimed another Top 2 finish in ECL and have a shot at being the first back-to-back-to-back winners of the league.
NRG 2-1 Wildcard
It wasn't easy for Wildcard last night as they found themselves on the losing end of another playoff match sending them crashing out of the competition and their hopes for a spot in ESL Pro League once more. The Season 47 runners up had the odds stacked against them due to the previous night of DDoSing and the visa issues that hurt their squad.
NRG, for their credit, handled the game beautifully. They secured Wildcard's Vertigo pick in a back and forth map that could have gone either way and then they were able to take a commanding lead on their Anubis CT-side before closing it out on while on the offensive.
Party Astronauts 2-1 Nouns
This was a brutal loss for Nouns who have looked good all season as Party Astronauts crushed them 2-1 which included a 13-0 mauling on their own map pick. The two sides were embattled by a DDoSing attempt which impacted players from both squads. That didn't stop either team however as they closely competed in the final two maps of the night.
Nouns got their revenge on the next map as they tied up the series score thanks to a tight 13-11 win on Ancient. However, just regulation couldn't separate Party Astronauts and Nouns on Nuke. The two sides were square in regulation and needed overtime before PA could muster through with a final win to take the series and move on.
