The Americas RMR will utilize the Swiss system. The opening matches at the Americas RMR will be best-of-one, with winners moving up to the 1-0 pool while the losers fall to the 0-1 pool. Elimination matches and advancement matches will be best-of-three.

Seven teams will advance to the Perfect World Shanghai Major, meaning a tiebreaker will be used at the end of the RMR. All seven teams will be placed in the Opening Stage, as no Americas team reached the Elimination Stage at the last Major. However, it will be the most amount of Americas teams at a Major since the creation of the RMRs.

Why is NA RMR 1 plays 9 and 2 plays 10 instead of 1v16 2v15 etc?
Is it due to swiss format and do they do each round of matchups seed based?

It's a format that Valve introduced a few majors ago to help address seeding complaints. Starting at round 3 they use a variation of the Buchholz system to seed the matches.

Makes sense. I just seen Asia Closed RMR its 1v8, 2v7, 3v6, and 4v5. Different format due to not being swiss I guess makes sense.
