Watch: Twistzz identifies CT-defense setup based on glove color
Liquid might have been eliminated from IEM Rio 2024, but Russel "Twistzz" Van Dulken is walking away as the winning of the most high IQ play we've seen so far down in Brazil.
While the International squad were facing FaZe in the elimination match on October 8th, Twistzz was trying to navigate his team through a potentially tricky Anti-Eco round against FaZe. While he was probing the B site on Inferno, he noticed that a player who pushed him was wearing red gloves.
Twistzz immediately identified this as not one of the normal B-site players, leading him to think that this could be a five-man CT stack and that Liquid would need to go to the other site.
Just as Twistzz was exploring more he saw additional players and called for his team to rotate to the A-site where they would eventually secure the round.
You can watch the full clip to listen to the Liquid comms as they navigate the tricky situation.
Some users on X have pointed out that David "frozen" Čerňanský has apparently been sporting a pair of red gloves recently, however even if Twistzz's split-second deduction was not entirely correct, it is fascinating to see in-game skins potentially play a role in sussing out an opponent's positions. Perhaps we'll see teams swapping gloves between matches in order to confuse opponents in the future?
