Complexity eliminated from Rio after two map, overtime affair
What a horrendous way to lose! Complexity was eliminated from IEM Rio this evening after losing in a 2-0 battle. Both maps went into Overtime, precipitated by late comebacks from the American side. It was a tough watch for North American fans, who gained a little bit of hope as the map went on, only to see it crushed at the very end.
The series began on Complexity's pick of Vertigo where the two sides were inseparable in the first half. With a 6-6 scoreline, things got testy for Complexity when MOUZ reached 11-6 and then 12-9, but the Americans could claw their way back to force an overtime.
While fans hoped that the overtime would be somewhat competitive, it was anything but. MOUZ claimed four rounds in a row to get a clean 16-12 map victory while stealing away Complexity's best map.
Inferno was equally as frustratingly close as Complexity struggled to keep up against the Europeans in the first half on their CT-side as they only earned five rounds. Things got dangerous for the Americans when MOUZ reached match point at 10-12, after Complexity had already taken the lead 10-7. It was a concerning potential collapse, but once again, Complexity secured overtime in nailbiting fashion.
But just like on Vertigo, Complexity's overtime performance was less than stellar. They lost four rounds in a row to lose the map and the series.
