M80 cooks Complexity in group C opener
Two North American teams collided in the first round of ESL Pro League Season 20, but the regional rivalry matchup was surprisingly one-sided. The lower ranked M80 roster decimated Complexity in a quick and efficient 2-0 series.
The series started out messy on Ancient, with both sides managing to take multiple rounds on forcebuys, leading to a 6-6 stalemate after M80's T side. While Complexity managed to take three rounds in a row to close out the first half, they found no answers on their own T-side, as their frustrations and M80's trash talk increased with each successful M80 CT round. Slaxz- converting a 2v4 round with his AWP to give M80 their 12th was the final nail in the coffin, cementing a 13-6 win on Ancient thanks to a flawless CT-side.
M80 won another second round forcebuy to jumpstart their T side on Anubis, and they did not look back once. Complexity tried aggression and deep holds on their CT side, but nothing worked as M80 smashed their setups round-after-round, leading 9-3 at half-time. Complexity losing the second half pistol thanks to a last-second defuse made the notion of a comeback even more daunting, but they did manage to make it close, albeit via a couple close calls. However an Jonathan "EliGE" Jablonowski mid lurk uncharacteristically produced no kills in the final round, allowing M80 to finally get the 13th round they were looking for.
M80 moves on to play Fnatic in the upper bracket semifinals, while Complexity drops down to play Astralis.
