BOSS complete mass overhaul with SLIGHT and micro additions

With four new additions, BOSS are ready for S48.

Orgless ESL Challenger League team BOSS have completed a mass overhaul of their roster, seeing Jack "micro" Ryan, Keller "SLIGHT" Nilan, Matt "Warden" Dickens, and Ashlynn "Valkenn" Brady all join the roster last night while Saad "Pluto" Siraj stepped away from the team after two months and is set to go on a hiatus from competition. The changes see micro take over as IGL of the roster while reuniting with his former Detonate/Wildcard teammates, while SLIGHT takes over the role left in the squad by the recent retirement of Josh "PwnAlone" Pigue in early June.

Overall, the recalibration of the roster sees a reunion of the Detonate squad that qualified Blast.tv Paris Major Americas RMR in early 2023, while in a somewhat novel coincidence every single member of this new roster has been a part of Wildcard during their time in Counter-Strike esports.

According to micro, the road to the formation of this new BOSS roster is quite winding as the initial plan was for Matthew "Cryptic" Whitmore to join Carpe Diem alongside micro, Mason "Lake" Sanderson and Jerric "wiz" Jiang, however Lake's reported callup to M80 complicated those plan. micro's plan to rebuild Carpe Diem went further awry when wiz informed the team of his plans to take a break from competition to focus on school, leaving the team without two critical pieces and the need to use wiz as a stand-in to hold onto their ECL spot.

Following wiz's announcement to the team, micro told Dust2.us that he decided to look for a new squad as he did not want to play with a stand-in and rebuild mid-season like he did last season with John "arcade" Rogel. This decision led him and Cryptic to return to BOSS while also bringing in SLIGHT, who is still under contract with Wildcard, as their AWPer.

Speaking of Carpe Diem, despite losing the majority of their roster, the team are still set to rebuild. Sebastian "Seb" Dietrich told Dust2.us that he has taken control of the team's slot and is currently in the process of building a new roster to compete in ESL Challenger League Season 48 while also being in talks with a prospective organization.

Within this new roster there is also set to be a unique coaching situation as Warden and Valkenn are set to be co-coaches of the team. This "co-coaching" system has gained traction in North America recently, with Wildcard and Nouns both having dual coaches previously. micro told Dust2.us that Warden is set to focus on the mental side of the game and optimizing certain procedures like in-game communication, while Valkenn is focus on strategy and anti-stratting opponents.

With all of these additions, BOSS are now:

  • United States Matthew "Cryptic" Whitmore

  • Canada Adam "freshie" Paterson

  • United States Matthew "d4rty" Paplawskas

  • United States Jack "micro" Ryan

  • United States Keller "SLIGHT" Nilan

  • United States Matt "Warden" Dickens (Co-Coach)

  • United States Ashlynn "Valkenn" Brady (Co-Coach)

Finally at full power once again. With Warden as coach even. I don't appreciate his bad sportsman like conduct but you can't deny that he's a great coach.
