Thunderpick CQ #2 Ro16 ends with favorites advancing to quaterfinals
The second qualifier for the Thunderpick World Championships are well underway with teams like Legacy, NRG, Nouns, and more competing for $20,000 and the final North American qualifier in the main event this October. While the format is unknown and will likely be online, this opportunity will still provide invaluable practice for the team that joins M80 abroad.
This time around, two ESL Impact teams competed in the opening round: TSM Shimmer and FlyQuest Red. Both teams faced tough opponents in Nouns and Elevate, respectively. While the matches were somewhat competitive, both male teams ended up winning their series 2-0.
Other notable matchups included NRG taking down FLUFFY AIMERS 2-1 in a wild turn of events as former FA member Fern "intra" Hak had to replace Darius "PDNLM" Bandali on the first map and then Nelvin "nooz" Gonzalez on the second map. While intra was able to help the AIMERS secure the opening win, he wasn't able to convert the series as NRG came back to advance to the next round.
Elsewhere Legacy ended up being slightly challenged by the North American revival squad Vibe which includes such legends as Tyler "Skadoodle" Latham, Joshua "steel" Nissan, Braxton "swag" Pierce, and Jordan "n0thing" Gilbert. While the Americans tried their best, the in-form Brazilians pulled off a clean 2-0.
Later, Mythic would end up challenging the aforementioned Brazilians, but were not able to take the victory as Gabriel "NEKIZ" Schenato's squad have continued their top form as one of the dominant teams within the region.
There are more matches tonight with Nouns facing Elevate at 05:30PM, Wildcard battling LAG at 08:30PM, and Party Astronauts duking it out once more with NRG at 02:30PM.
