At 30, Olga is still as committed to the grind as ever

Olga: "I'm a nerd so I usually just play CS the whole day"

Olga's focus has firmly been on CS while living in Malaysia.

As is tradition at this point, HSG fe had a difficult opener at the ESL Impact Season 5 finals, needing to take on the recently-signed Imperial fe in their opening match. Despite facing a loss in their opening match, HSG fe made it close with a 13-7 scoreline on Mirage.

Following the match, the Brazilian spoke to Dust2.us' Jeffrey "Mnmzzz" Moore about the match against Imperial fe, the state of Asian Impact scene, and her time Malaysia so far away from home, among other topics.

Today's match against Imperial was the closest to date for HSG against that core. How are you feeling coming out of that match?

Now with MR12 it's very hard to have a close match when you don't win the pistol round and don't convert it and have a win streak. We took a bit longer on the T-side to start winning rounds, in fact we could've had three rounds but then in the second half we started by losing the pistol round again and we couldn't win the first weapon round and the second weapon round we lost in a 4v3.

It's hard to construct the CT economy and have a close match like that. We know it was just a matter of small details that could change this score. We also started off a bit unconfident so we need to build that during the game and it's these details that affect the score.

Does that lack of confidence come from a lack of events available to play in Asia?

I believe so. At least individually for me I feel that I miss playing more tournaments and having the feeling of playing official matches.

How do you think your opponents, Imperial fe, have changed since replacing vilga with zAAz?

I don't know if it's a map change or the whole structure of the team, but vilga used to have a bit more aggressive roles and more individual roles. I haven't seen them so far playing alone and having these individual roles with arT from FURIA and karrigan sometimes. On mirage I didn't see the same thing.

Looking at your squad, HSG has quite a few players on their books. What went into the choice of the squad for this event?

One player is new, LEO, she played for HSG before I joined. Before we played with Argent so it's different with a new team and new roles. Not playing as many tournaments as other teams affects the confidence as a team that plays more matches and tournaments.

You've now been in Malaysia with this squad for 16 months. How has that experience been in terms of culture shock and your lived experience?

I'm a nerd so I usually just play CS the whole day. The biggest difference is the food and some cultural things, but in my personal routine on an off-day I'm with some friends and I hang out, but nowadays I do it more with people from my team. That's the biggest difference because most days I'm just playing CS, playing CS, playing CS.

Your next match will be against BIG EQUIPA or FlyQuest RED, what are your thoughts about the upcoming match and who would you want to face?

FlyQuest because we have a good record against them. I believe against them our team would join the server confident because we know it will not be as hard to play against them as against Imperial. It will be a nice match to have our first victory here in the tournament.

I wanted to say happy birthday to you as well here as you just turned 30. That's a pivotal year as many CS pros weigh up retiring around then. How do you feel about your career, do you think you want to keep playing indefinitely if you can?

Yeah sure, definitely for me. I've heard about some old players talking about the biggest difference being the responsibilities you have when you get older. Some people have families, children, and their parents to take care of because they are getting old.

For me it's kind of the same, but the responsibilities nowadays don't affect me in the game so I only have myself to say that I can keep playing as long as I can.

Compared to previous Impact seasons, there is one less spot for Brazilian teams. What are your thoughts on that?

It's very unfair to be honest with Brazil always being at least in the semifinals in the first three seasons. It's hard because it's fair to give more spots to Europe but don't take it from a region that's proven.

Olga and HSG fe will look to stay alive as they take on FlyQuest RED tomorrow at 12:00PM.
