STEWIE MAKES IT TO THE ARENA
You heard it correctly, Jake "Stewie2k" Yip is going to be playing in the playoffs of a major event for the first time in years. G2 take down Liquid to earn a quarterfinal berth as the lone American left in the competition has made it to the big stage. Liquid were close after securing their opening map, but a flat T-side on Inferno and a late crumbling on the CT-side of Nuke means the squad is out of the competition.
Some North American analysts foresaw that Liquid would emerge as the eventual winners prior to the beginning of the match, but it was difficult for the struggling side. Dust2 quickly proved that, as Liquid's quick momentum to start the game was abruptly stopped, and G2 took the lead at the half 7-5.
It was a mountain for Liquid to climb as they went dangerously down 7-11, but once their economy was under control, the Americas side found a way to stop the Europeans from penetrating the sites as they comfortably came back to win 13-11.
Inferno was a scarier test for Liquid as this was G2's most comfortable map. However, G2 appeared to struggle as Liquid quickly took a 6-1 lead before finishing the half in control with an 8-4 scoreline.
But the second was all G2 all the time. Liquid did not get a single T-sided round as G2 shut out Liquid to take the map 13-8 as they tied up the series.
With a final map of Nuke, all the momentum was behind G2 in this matchup. The Europeans continued that by winning the knife to take the CT side and also the pistol. However Liquid would not be silenced as they consistently battled to ensure that it would be all even at the half.
Liquid managed to get the advantage in the game, but G2 came roaring back towards the end to secure the final map 13-11 and take the series 2-1.
