Triumph and oNe book final spots in cs_summit 8 Closed Qualifier
On Sunday night Triumph and oNe secured the final spots in the coming weekend's Closed Qualifier for cs_summit 8 with wins over Imperial and Third Impact, respectively.
The series between Triumph and SKDC was much closer than some might have thought, with Kory "SEMPHIS" Friesen and friends taking Alan "Shakezullah" Hardeman's latest roster to overtime on Dust2, then stringing together a serious comeback bid after being down 12-3 at halftime on Nuke. David "cynic" Polster led all players with 58 kills in the series, while SEMPHIS led SKDC with 52 frags.

Imperial, featuring Fernando "fer" Alvarenga, took care of business against Veloz and allowed just fourteen rounds in the entire series. The Brazilians all tallied at least thirty kills between Inferno and Mirage, led by Arthur "f4stzin" Schmitt's 40 frags. On the other side of the server Richie "sherps" Sherpa led Veloz with 32 kills as he and his teammates were swept 2-0.

Valkyrie appeared ready to play spoiler for Third Impact after taking Vertigo in overtime, but the ESEA Advanced side couldn't carry their momentum onto the other maps as they failed to reach a double-digit scoreline on both Inferno and Nuke. On the latter map Third Impact strung together a flawless second half to clinch the decider and the reverse sweep. Brett "brett" Rhein led all players by a significant margin and finished with 82 kills, while Valkyrie were led by Silas "silas" Marrufo's 61 frags, their only player with a positive KD in the series.

Though Party Astronauts and oNe traded maps, momentum shifts within the maps themselves came at a premium. The first two maps of the series were hardly close, in the second halves especially, as each side stole the other's map pick in convincing fashion. On the decider oNe widened their slim 8-7 halftime lead early in the second half and then closed out the map and the series at their leisure. Mario "malbsMd" Samayoa was a cut above the rest of the server in this series for oNe. The Guatemalan finished with 77 frags, which totaled nearly twenty more kills than Party Astronauts' top frag, Jonathan "djay" Dallal.

Triumph edged Imperial in what proved to be the closest series on the second day of play. Each side stole the other's map pick and found success on their second-half T sides. But it was on Nuke that the AWP play of Austin "Cooper" Abadir shifted to be the focal point of the match as the egg-headed marksman collected twenty of his server-leading 28 frags with the sniper rifle. Cooper led all players in the series with 66 kills as Triumph secured a Closed Qualifier berth, while the duo of fer and f4stzin each finished with 56 frags in the loss.

The other play-in match turned out to be about as clear-cut a qualification for oNe as it could be. The Brazilians allowed just five rounds per map and dominated their ESEA Premier group foe from start to finish. Pedro "Maluk3" Campos found 27 of his series-leading 40 kills on Inferno as he showed a bit of life after a recent string of poor form during oNe's travels abroad in Europe. Brennan "grape" Greer led Third Impact with 30 frags in the demoralizing loss.
