paiN can't secure Playoff spot against NAVI
paiN kept on impressing but they wanted to shock everyone as the team was hoping to secure a playoff berth today. Unfortunately for the Brazilians, NAVI proved to be too much of a challenge, as they were taken out of the PGL Copenhagen Major after a 2-0 loss.
paiN can be proud of themselves, as they absolutely surpassed everyone's expectations. This is a team that was selected by many to go 0-3 during the Opening Stage of the Major and they were just two maps away from playing in the Royal Arena.
The series started off on paiN's pick of Nuke. This time, the Brazilian T-side left much to be desired, as NAVI were able to secure a 9-3 lead. The European team was able to reach a 10-3 lead right after but paiN started mounting a comeback, almost tying the game with just an 11-10 deficit. NAVI would go on to win the map with two round wins. 13-10 was the final score as the teams moved to NAVI's pick.
NAVI had chosen Mirage, the map where paiN had had a flawless CT-side against Heroic. This time, things didn't pan out the same way, with NAVI taking an 8-4 lead on the T-side. The gap started to widen even more with the side switch, as paiN were unable to win the pistol round and the following one. Once more, paiN would go on to close the deficit to 10-9, just one round away from tying the game, before NAVI could get back on the board and take the 13-9 win.
paiN have been eliminated from the Major, but their run will be remembered by the community. After surpassing expectations the young paiN squad under Rodrigo "biguzera" Bittencourt deserves to be seen as one of the strongest teams in the Americas region.
