FURIA helps the Americas steal a final 7th spot from Europe
It's official. It's done. The Americas will be sending seven teams to the Perfect World Shanghai Major this December. This will be the most teams the region will ever have ever had at a Major since 2016 with the MLG Columbus Major.
FURIA's emphatic 2-0 victory over SAW has sealed the door shut on the next Major's slot allocation with some significant changes coming to the every region's Regional Major Ranking event.
Europe will now only have 14 teams in the event, meaning that only seven teams from RMR A and RMR B will qualify for the event. This will be done as the 8th ranked team will play the 7th ranked team in a one-off playoff for qualification. Additionally, there will no longer be a European Last Chance Qualifier RMR event to pick the last team for the Major. This has been in use for the last two events when Europe gained a 17th spot.
Asia will now transition into having three teams qualifying for the Major. It's unclear what the exact format will be to determine the 3rd place however the tournament will continue to operate as a 8-team double-elimination bracket.
The Americas will also continue to use the Swiss System Buchholz system and will have seven teams move on to the Major. Like in Europe, the 8th place team will need to play the 7th place team in a best-of-three one-off match to determine who will go through to the main event.
