Not Triumph, High Coast reach Mythic Winter Cup 2021 grand finals
Not Triumph and High Coast have claimed spots in the grand final of the Mythic Winter Cup 2021, with the former taking down Eclipse and RBG in their first two matchups while the latter beat Russian Canadians and Secret Club.
The trio of Austin "Cooper" Abadir, Brendan "Bwills" Williams, and Danny "cxzi" Strzelczyk helped Not Triumph cruise to a win on Vertigo against Eclipse, mustering a 14-1 T-side effort before sealing the map victory not long into the second half. Mirage was more competitive as Eclipse managed six rounds by the break, but Alan "Shakezullah" Hardeman's side remained in control, clinching the map 16-12 to advance to the semifinals.
Meanwhile, High Coast made short work of Russian Canadians, dispatching of Alex "vek" Voynov's side 16-3 on Mirage and 16-7 on Inferno. Stand-in Rodrigo "RCF" Figueiredo was the frontrunner for the team, boasting a 1.74 rating for the series thanks to a 30-9 K-D on Inferno.
The semifinal round saw closer contention as RBG kept Not Triumph honest. Despite trailing 5-10 at the half on Overpass, Jadan "HexT" Postma and company fought back on the CT-side, capitalizing on mistakes to win eleven rounds while conceding only one en route to a 16-11 map victory.
Not Triumph's pick of Mirage turned the tides as Cooper- took the reigns on the offense, posting nine rounds at the half before Wesley "viz" Harris helped close things following the side swap, evening the series score with a 16-8 scoreline.
A 5-0 lead for Not Triumph on the CT-side of the decider, Inferno, gave way to a spree of rounds from RBG, who battled back to lead 9-6 at the break. Shakezullah's side got back on their feet once they were on the attack, winning eight rounds near the start of the second half before putting a halt to a brief comeback effort from RBG, edging out a 16-14 victory to take the series.
High Coast, meanwhile, opened up their semifinal series against Secret Club in firm control, pulling ahead 9-6 on the T-side of Inferno. Secret Club seemed set to steal away control as they were the dominant team at the onset of the second half, briefly taking the lead 12-10 before High Coast stabilized, managing to narrowly close out the map 16-14.
Mirage was Anthony "CLASIA" Kearney's playground as he demolished High Coast on the attack, averaging 146 damage per round in the first half for an 11-4 scoreline at the break. A pistol victory offered High Coast brief solace, but CLASIA continued to run rampant as Secret Club closed the map 16-9, the 17-year-old leading the way with a 2.00 rating.
Unfortunately, CLASIA cooled off considerably on Overpass, a map where High Coast were the clear-cut better side. RCF once again played a pivotal role in his team's win, boasting a 24-11 K-D and 2.15 rating as High Coast cruised to a 16-4 finish to take the series.
Not Triumph and High Coast are set to face off in the Mythic Winter Cup 2021 grand final later today at 5 PM EST, with the victors netting themselves $3,000.
