Americas can have anywhere from 5 to 8 spots at Shanghai
Thanks to paiN's 3-1 performance in the Opening Stage at the PGL Copenhagen Major, the Americas region have at least retained the five spots they came into Copenhagen with for the Shanghai Major later this year. With the 2-2 match ups tomorrow deciding everything, the Americas region can have at minumum 5, or at maximum 8, spots in Shanghai.
For a refresher course in slot distribution, the Americas region receives three default slots along with however many teams they send to the Elimination Stage. Complexity, who qualified to the Elimination Stage through the RMR, and paiN, who punched their ticket earlier today with a victory over SAW, bump that number up to five.
The three remaining Americas teams at the Major, FURIA, Legacy, and Imperial, all sit at 2-2. Even more enticingly, none of them play one another. The panthers of FURIA take on the imposter Portuguese speaking team, SAW, while Imperial battle the last-second stand-in GamerLegion, all while their brothers in Legacy fight the beast from the East, TheMongolz.
Each win for a Brazilian team allots another slot for the Americas. Our region can either enter Shanghai in the same situation we did Copenhagen or with an unheard proportion of representation. It all comes down to tomorrow.
