Yeah overcome RBG to win second ESEA Winter Cash Cup
Yeah have won the second ESEA Winter Cash Cup, picking up close victories over timbermen and RBG yesterday to net the $3,000 top prize. The win marks Yeah's second cash cup victory, having won two out of the last three cups.
The first semifinals series saw RBG start their playoffs run against Rebirth on Inferno. The new-look squad were in good form on their map pick, winning their T-side 10-5 thanks in part to a strong opening performance from Colby "Walco" Walsh. After switching sides, Rebirth had a minor resurgence, winning their T-side pistol and the next two rounds before RBG won six out of the next seven rounds to win the map 16-9.
After a relatively one-sided affair on Inferno, Rebirth finally came alive on Mirage, winning their T-side 10-5 thanks to a strong half from Rahul "curry" Nemani. The five-round deficit did not last long for RBG once they switched sides, as the team overpowered Rebirth to win the next eight rounds in a row to lead 13-10. After failing to gain traction for the majority of the half, Rebirth was finally able to answer back on round 24, halting RBG's advance. Rebirth used this break in momentum to win four out of the next six rounds and force Mirage into overtime. Overtime was a drawn out affair, with neither side managing to come out ahead until the third overtime, after which RBG finally broke through to win Mirage 25-23.
Looking towards the other semifinal series, the opening match on Mirage between Yeah and timbermen started off relatively one-sided as the Brazilians won their T-side 10-5. Moving onto the second half, although timbermen fared a bit better, winning six rounds and claiming double digits, Yeah overall performed far better with each member outfragging and outperforming their opposite on timbermen as Yeah won the map 16-11.
The next map in the series, Train, started off in a similarly to Mirage, with Yeah putting up a strong T-side effort to win the opening half 10-5. However, where timbermen failed to gain momentum on Mirage, they were in much better form on Train, stealing enough rounds away from Yeah to take the map into overtime. Unfortunately for timbermen, this effort proved to be for naught as Yeah won the next four rounds in a quick fashion to take Train 19-15.
In the finals, the Brazilians struck the first blow in the best-of-three series against RBG, claiming a 9-6 CT-side on their opponent's map pick of Inferno. After switching sides, Yeah continued their strong form despite losing two out of the first three rounds, quickly recovering to win the map 16-9.
Trailing by a map, RBG started Mirage in good form, battling Rodrigo "RCF" Figueiredo and co. to a stalemate in the opening, trailing by a single round as they transitioned onto their T-side. Once they moved onto their T-side, RBG returned the favor to Yeah by playing a blowout half against their opponents to win Mirage 16-11 and force the series onto Overpass.
After a decisive performance by RBG on Mirage the team appeared to be in a position to claim the upset victory against Yeah, netting seven rounds on their CT-side to trail by one heading into the second half. However, once Yeah were on their CT-side, Yeah put up a strong defense, shutting down RBG to quickly wrap up Overpass 16-9.
