Liquid tapped to play GET Rio
Liquid is likely to be one of the few international teams invited to play in the Global Esports Tour this April in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Liquid is currently in negotiations with the tournament organizer to compete in the $200,000 LAN, Dust2 Brasil has reported.
The Global Esports Federation is the entity pushing forward with the talks. According to the report, conversations between Liquid and the organizer have become quite advanced, with just the contract needing to be signed. Liquid is expected to be officially announced soon as one of the invited teams.
GET Rio confirmed to Dust2 Brasil that they were in negotiations with Liquid while Game Arena has reported that they have already agreed to play in the competition.
Liquid is coming off a disappointing PGL Copenhagen Major Americas RMR where the squad fell in the final match of the competition to Complexity and were eliminated from Major contention. The team has acknowledged the underperformance throughout their social media channels and promised improvement.
The squad have already made an incredibly busy April for themselves if they do plan on heading to Rio for this event. They are already scheduled to travel to India for the Skyesports Masters 2024 from April 8th through the 14th, then GET Rio from the 18th through the 21st, then onto Malta for ESL Pro League from April 23rd through May 12.
Should Liquid choose to participate in this event, it means that they will be missing out on the North American and South American Open and Closed Qualifiers for the Esports World Cup, which are scheduled for April 16th through April 19th.
