It was an emotional night for Liquid.

After eight Majors, Liquid's streak is broken

Liquid will miss their first Major since 2017.

With Complexity's win over Liquid last night, one of the most storied organizations in regional history will not attend its first Major since 2017. The team went 2-2 in the PGL Copenhagen Major Americas RMR with losses to FURIA and Complexity, the two highest-ranked teams in the region.

This will be the first time that Liquid will not attend a Major since PGL Krakow 2017, the final Major before Valve adjusted the Major Qualifier to include the Top 24 teams instead of just the Top 16. Liquid went 2-3 in the Swiss, entirely BO1 event, and would lose to Flipsid3 in a triple overtime thriller.

If we count Liquid attending the Major Qualifier, which is now formally considered part of the Major, this is the first Major in which Liquid has not made it to the Top 24 since ESL One: Cologne 2015, when they failed to get out of the North American qualifier.

Liquid's Major history since 2017;

  • ELEAGUE Major Boston 2018: 12th-14th

  • FACEIT Major London 2018: 3rd-4th

  • IEM Katowice Major 2019: 5th-8th

  • StarLadder Berlin Major 2019: 5th-8th

  • PGL Major Stockholm 2021: 12th-14th

  • PGL Major Antwerp 2022: 15th-16th

  • IEM Rio Major 2022: 9th-11th

  • BLAST.tv Paris Major 2023: 5th-8th

Liquid started off strong at the Americas RMR with a win over BESTIA, but due to their poor ranking, they had to face FURIA in the 1-0 match. Following that, the international roster bounced back with a 2-0 win against BOSS, before finally falling against Complexity in the final match of the event.

The qualified teams for the Americas RMR are Complexity, FURIA, Imperial, paiN, and Legacy. The Major begins on March 17th and ends March 31st.
