Warden set to take the stage with Wildcard at Americas RMR
Back in mid-January, Wildcard qualified to the PGL Major Copenhagen Americas RMR after a stellar 3-0 performance in the closed qualifier that saw the team take down M80 2-1 to stamp their ticket. With this, Peter "stanislaw" Jarguz and co. are set to embark on their first LAN event under Wildcard. With this, an important choice needed to be made, which of the team's two co-coaches will be standing behind the team in Monterrey?
Today, João "horvy" Horvath has confirmed to his Brazilian followers on X that former Complexity coach Matt "warden" Dickens will be standing behind the team as they look to qualify to the first Counter-Strike 2 Major.
The purpose behind horvy's post was to allay fears that he had been released, while also explaining that because Valve only allows one coach to be registered for a team, Wildcard decided to use Warden this time around. However, he noted that who stands behind the team is decided on a per-event basis, meaning the Brazilian may be seen behind Wildcard in the future.
From the outside looking in, having Warden behind the squad may prove valuable as he has ample experience at Majors and high-stress events as both a player and coach. horvy also said he was unconcerned about not being behind the team, stating that he believes a coaches most important role is to prep the team before matches, especially at Valve events. It is also worth pointing out that horvy is listed as the team's substitute for the event, meaning in the unlikely situation one of the starting five cannot play, horvy will be called upon. This decision is also likely pragmatic as horvy was a pro back in 2021, while Warden hasn't played in earnest since 2016.
Wildcard's official roster at the RMR consists of:
-
Peter "stanislaw" Jarguz
-
Gage "Infinite" Green
-
Josh "JBa" Barutt
-
Keller "SLIGHT" Nilan
-
Aran "Sonic" Groesbeek
-
Matt "Warden" Dickens (Coach)
-
João "horvy" Horvath (Substitute)
The PGL Major Copenhagen Americas RMR is set to start on March 1st.
