FURIA eliminated from IEM Katowice
FURIA have now been eliminated from IEM Katowice during the play-in stage for the second consecutive year. At IEM Katowice 2023, FURIA were eliminated by IHC, now TheMongolz. This year, FURIA once again was beaten by the Mongolian squad and then fell to Apeks to be sent backing.
FURIA has now failed to advance out of the Play-In stage for IEM Katowice and IEM Cologne three tournaments in a row, missing out on a deep run at some of the circuit's most important events.
The match was a tight back-and-forth affair which saw each team win their own map picks as they ended up going to the Ancient decider. Apeks jumped out to a 10-2 first half T-side lead against FURIA on the European's pick, before slowly allowing the Brazilians to crawl back. That comeback effort was stopped and Apeks walked away with a 13-9 win.
Apeks started Mirage the same exact way as they took a dominant 10-2 first half lead, only to see that lead slowly slip away. This time, FURIA was able to complete the comeback and secure a 13-10 map victory to set up a final showdown on Ancient.
Ancient was once again a map where Apeks jumped out to a strong lead as they took the first half 9-3. FURIA needed a strong T-side to comeback and were on the cusp of bringing it to overtime until Yuri "yuurih" Boian's monitor had an issue at a crucial point in the A-site push on the final round. Suddenly without a crucial player, FURIA found themselves disjointed and would lose the round and be eliminated as Apeks took the map 13-11.
FURIA's next LAN will be the PGL Major Copenhagen Americas RMR in Monterrey, Mexico, which is set to start on March 1st.
