Fragicago winner apologizes for post-match comments

Unfortunate comparison.

Over the weekend, we saw Badass take home the Fragicago crown in front of a less-than-welcoming crowd. Due to the reputation of the players on Badass, boos were heard ringing out in the venue following their LAN victory. It was a tough scene, and during the post-match interview with Shane "shane" Dressler some of the agitation showed.

In an illy-applied comparison, the Badass player said that the fans acted as if they wanted his team to lose "more than they would have wanted the holocaust to not have happened".

Unsurprisingly, the comments did not go over well and has since been shared widely on X, formerly Twitter, and Reddit. In response to the comments, shane immediately understood that what he said was inappropriate and a mistake. In a thread, the player said it "was the worst analogy I could have ever possibly chosen" and that he "genuinely apologizes". In explaining his state of mind, Shane explained that the crowd's reactions had left him flustered and rendered him unable to think clearly about what to say during the post-match interview.

Furthermore, shane has explained that it has been years since the incidents that have made him and his teammates infamous within the community. He does not want "to be defined by something that [he] did as a teenager".

It is an unfortunate slip of the tongue that will not further improve the player's reputation. In response to the official Fragadelphia tweet announcing the team as the winners, many replied with scorn and derision.

The Badass team are next scheduled to play in the ESL Challenger League Season 46 playoffs against Mythic.

I think we need to be a bit more nuanced. Yes, shane has a bad reputation and history with that kind of "edgy" stuff he did. The comment was wholly inappropriate and not acceptable.

He apologized in a thread (would have liked to see his own tweet), but it seemed genuine, especially since he did it multiple times to multiple people. I think that shane was agitated from everyone booing him like anyone else would be and he felt strongly about being mistreated, in his eyes.

Now, again, the comment is not appropriate, but I think that owning up to it and immediately apologizing instead of waiting days to do so shows maturity in the situation. I bet that if he took a breath and was on stream, he would have apologized for that too.

i think the amount of immaturity she showed by comparing the dislike of his team to a literal genocide and then not immediately and instantaneously realizing how batshit insane that is completely outweighs any maturity shown by apologizing for making that statement quickly. sure there’s some nuance but like… the holocaust? that’s actually the single worst analogy you could possibly make and his mind goes straight to it. have they actually matured or have they just learned how to hide it better. i’m fairly certain any normal person would never go straight to that comparison under any circumstances

The comments some of these players have made in the past, as well as this comment are clearly inappropriate, but the hate has got to be dragging these players down. It's like the community want them to continue being the bad guys instead of letting them grow past this.

they’re doing a great job of moving past it and growing!

I can't say you're wrong with #5, but booing them at a LAN event doesn't solve anything either. They should be held accountable for their actions, not bullied.
