FURIA, Bad News Bears, Cloud9, Gen.G claim Americas Minor spots
Day one of ESL One Rio Americas Minor North America Closed Qualifier has come to a close, seeing FURIA, Bad News Bears, Cloud9, and Gen.G advance to the Americas Minor.
The first team to make their way through was FURIA, with the highest ranked team in the qualifier making quick work of Triumph and Envy.
FURIA struggled the most out of their two matches against Triumph, with standout performances from Michael "Grim" Wallace and Peter "Asuna" Mazuryk allowing the MDL team to find double digits on Overpass and Inferno.
However, Yuri "yuurih" Santos and Kaike "KSCERATO" Cerato topped the scoreboard on each map, respectively, helping push their team over the edge and preventing the Braziliana from having to play a third map as they won the two opening maps 16-14 and 16-11.

Next up, Bad News Bears were the first North American lineup to make their way into the Americas Minor, with the team besting Rugratz and Ze Pug Godz.
Rugratz proved to be their biggest hurdle of the qualifier for Bad News Bears as the former team out guns blazing on Mirage, winning their T-side 11-4 before claiming the map 16-10.
Bad News Bears managed to prevent an upset victory from Rugratz as they played a close game on Inferno, with Rugratz winning their CT-side 8-7 before Bad News Bears ultimately claimed the map 16-11.
With the series tied, Bad News Bears showed off their skill as a team by brutalizing Rugratz with a 16-1 demolition on Nuke. Notably, Jonathan "Jonji" Carey and Michael "dapr" Gulino ended the map with 2.06 and 2.04 ratings, respectively.

Cloud9 were the third squad of the night to claim a Rio berth, dispatching LiViD and Mythic on their way through the upper bracket.
MDL side LiViD proved to be an easy opening matchup for Cloud9 as they started the series off with a one-sided takedown on Train, winning their CT-side 11-4 before taking the map 16-5.
After this, LiViD gave a slightly better showing on Overpass, starting the series off by winning their CT-side 9-6. It was not long until Cloud9 quickly regained the lead, only allowing the French Canadians two further rounds before winning Overpass 16-11.

After Mythic almost had to drop out due to David "DAVEY" Stafford having a personal matter, Cloud9 agreed to allow the match to happen three hours early, with the two teams eventually facing off on Vertigo and Inferno.
Cloud9 may have begun to regret their decision on Vertigo as Mythic played an incredibly close opening half, only allowing Cloud9 to come out of their CT-side one round ahead. After this, Mythic continued to pressure Cloud9, finding double digits first on their CT-side before climbing up to 14-11. With their back up against the wall, Cloud rallied behind top performer Aran "Sonic" Groesbeek to win the next five rounds in a row to take Vertigo 16-14.
After the scare of Vertigo, Cloud9 played far better on Inferno, overpowering Mythic to win their T-side with a solid 10-5 lead. After struggling on their CT-side, Mythic launched into action on their T-side, winning five out of the first six rounds in a row to nearly tie the map up at 10-11. However, once Cloud9 got their economy in order, they ran away with the game, winning the five rounds in a row they needed to book their ticket to the Minor.

The final team to qualify to the Americas Minor yesterday, Gen.G, had the easiest run of the quartet, smashing through Divine and Orgless while only conceding 25 total rounds in the process.
Starting off against Divine, Gen.G gave the MDL side no breathing room as they mounted an 11-4 CT-side on Mirage before putting up a flawless T-side to take the map 16-4.
Continuing onto Nuke, things continued to go awry for Divine as Timothy "autimatic" Ta and co. pressed on, winning their T-side 12-3. On their T-side Divine claimed four more rounds before Gen.G ended the series with a 16-7 scoreline.

Beginning the action on Mirage, Kenneth "koosta" Suen had his time to shine as he led Gen.G to a dominant 11-4 CT-side. On their T-side, after conceding the opening pistol round and the following eco, Gen.G overran Orgless' defenses to quickly take Mirage 16-7.
Gen.G's domination continued onto Inferno, with Indonesian import Hansel "BnTeT" Ferdinand leading the way for Gen.G to win their T-side 9-6. After this, it was just a matter of cleanup for Gen.G as they only allowed Orgless one more round before taking the map and claiming a spot in the Minor, continuing their run of recent form.
