M80 fall to Last Chance Stage
M80 found themselves in the lower bracket of Group C after a 2-0 loss against Apeks yesterday. Joining them was Chinese team 5yclone, who had lost against NAVI to open their ESL Pro League Season 18 journey.
The series between M80 and 5yclone had three very close halves, but the Chinese would take the win in just two maps.
The series started off in Nuke, picked by 5yclone. Beginning the map on the CT-side, M80 couldn't win the pistol round but that didn't stop the team from making it a competitive half. 5yclone and M80 went back and forth, but the Chinese were up 8-7 at halftime. The second half was very different, as M80's T-side did not look very solid, with the team only winning three rounds during that half. 5yclone won the map 16-10.
Going into Anubis, M80 had a 4-0 start on the CT-side, but 5yclone managed to tie the game 5-5 before things got out of hand, in a move that would set the tone for the map. M80 won the half this time, 8-7. The North Americans couldn't win the second-half pistol round, but the team still found itself ahead 13-11 at some point. After that, the Chinese woke up and got back on the board with a streak of three rounds. M80 answered, tying things at 14-14, but 5yclone closed the map after an incredibly close 29th round and a messy 30th.
Despite the result, Mario "malbsMd" Samayoa had a good map during Anubis, and Michael "Swisher" Schmid had a solid Nuke, with everyone on the M80 squad showing a bit more comfort on the servers. The team will face the loser of the 9z vs. Imperial series in the Last Chance stage, on Saturday at 06:30AM.
