Chinese organization looks abroad to... Peru?
With TYLOO signing a trio of Balkan players and Rare Atom reportedly looking to pick up their own European duo, the Chinese scene is seemingly looking abroad once again for talent post-COVID. The Chinese scene is no stranger to recruiting foreign players and coaches, with Vladyslav "bondik" Nechyporchuk, Mikhail "Dosia" Stolyarov, Erik "truth" Dyrnes, and Luis "peacemaker" Tadeu all being names who spent some time abroad.
However, Chinese organization CatEvil seemingly has them all beat on the originality scale as after seven months without a team, they have assembled a new roster in Peru. Considering, in all fairness, Peru is hardly a CS powerhouse, who are these players and what gives?
The most notable name on this curious roster is Joel "tor1towOw" Rios, who should be familiar to NA fans from his time on Infinity, with the LATAM squad being frequent contenders in ESEA Advanced playoffs. The other name on this squad with some weight on it is Steve "BabyRage" Vilca, who is also an ESEA Advanced veteran from his time under Costa Rican organization Mad Kings. The other three additions are relatively unknown names from the Peruvian semi-pro scene, with Rodrigo "Antuanette" Cordova being the most known for a very brief tenure on Supremacy back in Peru.
Unfortunately, in terms of motivations on behalf of CatEvil in signing this roster, piercing the Chinese esports walled garden is difficult despite Dust2.us attempting to get in touch with the organization. tor1towOw was able to offer some minor insight saying the team did weigh having Chinese members, and he didn't rule out the team going to China at some point. However, for the moment they intend on competing in South and North American event including ESEA Open.
