How to be eligible for the CS2 Limited Test
In the blog post published earlier today, Valve announced an update for Counter-Strike 2, allowing most players to enter the Limited Test build of the soon-to-come game. It is important to note, however, that access to the Limited Test build is not for everyone. To be eligible, you must pass all three requirements listed below.
-
Have CS:GO Prime status
-
Have an active competitive rank
-
Play the majority of official matchmaking games in regions where the Limited Test is available
For those unaware, prime status is a safeguard put in place for Counter-Strike players to play Prime matchmaking, which promises a higher quality game free of cheaters and griefers. If you purchased CS:GO prior to the free-to-play update, you received Prime automatically. If you started playing after the game went free to play, you could purchase Prime or play casual gamemodes to level your account up to level 21, which gave Prime status as well. As of June 2021, Valve removed the option to unluck Prime via account leveling, making purchasing Prime the only way to obtain it.
As for the active competitive rank, this is achieved simply by playing enough competitive matches. If you do not play competitive matchmaking for a while, your rank may be expunged. So, if you don't have an active competitive rank, make sure to play a few competitive matchmaking games to receive one.
Onto the third and final requirement, the Limited Test is only available in some regions. However, with players in North and South America, Europe, Asia, Oceania, and Africa all able to play the Limited Test, just make sure you're not connecting from Antarctica and you should be alright.
