G2 allegedly distancing themselves from controversial sponsor
In recent times, it appears that German-based esports organization G2 has quietly distanced themselves from one of their most controversial sponsors in recent memory. On May 2nd, G2 and CSGORoll announced their new sponsorship through a now privated video and deleted tweet showcasing their young AWPer Ilya "m0NESY" Osipov in a what appears to be a casino.
The advertisement announcement was also specifically announced on May 2nd, as m0NESY turned 18 on May 1st, making him eligible to advertise in gambling promotions.
At the time, the announcement was met with massive pushback from the community as they saw the usage of m0NESY as predatory and the implication that CSGORoll was not a gambling website as misleading.
As Dexerto has noted, G2 no longer lists CSGORoll as one of their partners. While the logo has been removed from some player social media pages, it still remains on m0NESY's Twitch page. It is likely that since the player has been preparing for Gamers8, he has not had the time to update it.
Additionally, G2 made the decision to blur out the CSGORoll logo during its latest vlog uploaded on YouTube, just a few short hours ago. Additionally, that vlog does not list CSGORoll as a sponsor, however, a video posted on the G2 CS YouTube channel just 10 days ago has CSGORoll listed.
Interestingly, CSGORoll has not deleted its own tweet announcing the partnership, while all traces of CSGORoll are slowly disappearing on the G2 social accounts.
Dust2.us reached out to a representative of G2 but did not hear back by the time of publication.
