DreamHack reveal Open circuit for 2018
DreamHack have announced the dates for all of their Open tournaments as we head into 2018, starting with Leipzig in January; however, Leipzig will not feature CS:GO as its primary game due to scheduling the event at the same time as ELEAGUE's Boston Major. Montreal's primary game also remains a mystery, with DreamHack stating that they "aim to feature different games and diversify DreamHack Open."
The total number of Open tournaments are also down from nine in 2017 to eight in 2018 — a result of DreamHack Open Denver dropping off the circuit. Cloud9's victory in Denver will remain uncontested for 2018, though it is unknown whether DreamHack plans to make a return to Denver in 2019. North America will still play host to three tournaments with the return of stops in Austin, Montreal, and Atlanta.
The format for Open tournaments will remain the same, with a total of eight teams fighting over a $100,000 prize pool. Six of those teams will receive direct invites, while two will battle their way through regional qualifers in Europe and North America. It's also possible that some stops will only see five teams receive invites, with a wild-card slot going to a team that isn't in either of the regions covered by the qualifiers.
The following DreamHack Open stops will see CS:GO return once again (with the exception of Montreal, which is still to be determined):
- DreamHack Tours — May 19-21
- DreamHack Austin — June 1-3
- DreamHack Summer — June 16-18
- DreamHack Valencia — July 12-14
- DreamHack Montreal — September 7-9
- DreamHack Atlanta — November 16-18
- DreamHack Winter — November 30-December 2
DreamHack will also make a return with two Masters events longside their Open stops, with their second already set to take place in Stockholm from August 29-September 2.
