Cloud9 and eUnited sent packing as ECS Season 8 Week 4 reaches semifinals

Outside of Cloud9 falling to INTZ, the favorites advanced without too much trouble.

The start of ECS Season 8 Week 4 has seen Liquid, INTZ, ATK, and Complexity pick up wins as they fight to claim the third finals spot in Arlington.

The first series to come to an end saw Liquid unsurprisingly make quick work of ex-Singularity on Vertigo and Mirage.

Starting on Vertigo, Liquid mounted a strong defense, confounding ex-Singularity’s efforts to get into the map, with Liquid finishing the half up 11-4. Following this, Liquid put up a perfect T-side to quickly claim the map 16-4.

Moving onto Mirage, the series continued to be one-sided, with Liquid again finding a firm footing into the second half with a 10-5 CT-side. In the second half, ex-Singularity fared marginally better than on Vertigo, winning a single round before Liquid won the map 16-6.

Moving onto the second series of the day to conclude, Cloud9 debuted with Yassine "Subroza" Taoufik against INTZ on Mirage and Inferno.

Starting on their CT-side Cloud9 leapt into action winning the opening pistol round, before the Brazilians of INTZ battered C9 to take the next seven rounds in a row. Following this, Cloud9 finally stabilized surprisingly taking the half as they won the last seven rounds in a row.

Cloud9's lead was incredibly short-lived in the end, as Alexandre "xand" Zizi and co. stunned Cloud9, putting up a perfect CT-side, claiming nine rounds in a row to take Mirage 16-8.

Moving onto Inferno, Cloud9 were unable to shake off their map one loss as INTZ kept the pressure up, outpacing Cloud9 to take a 10-5 lead on their T-side. After switching sides, thanks to a strong performance from Oscar "mixwell" Cañellas Cloud9 finally found a way back into the maps as they won six rounds in a row to claim a one round lead. However, after INTZ managed to fully stabilize their economy the game slowly began to unravel for Cloud9, with INTZ narrowly taking Inferno 16-14, sending Cloud9 packing.

Continuing on, the series between Complexity and Riot Squad ended up being  relatively close, although Complexity claimed the 2-0 win after narrow victories on Mirage and Inferno.

Starting on Mirage, Riot Squad started off their T-side up 4-1 lead before Complexity gained their footing and powered forward to claim a 9-6 half. Once the two squads switched sides, Complexity would hold onto the lead for the remainder of the map however Riot Squad gave a good showing, with Austin "crashies" Roberts trading blows with some of Complexity's stars before Riot Squad fell 11-16.

Moving onto Inferno, Complexity really shifted into gear against their MDL opposition, smashing Riot Squad's CT-side to claim the first nine rounds in a row. Before the half was over, Riot Squad managed to prevent a complete rout as they claimed five out of the last six rounds of  the half to avert a complete disaster.

Once halftime was over and the two squads had switched sides, it looked like the beginning of the end for Riot Squad as Complexity won the first two rounds in a row on their CT-side. However, Riot Squad almost found the runback against Complexity as they won seven out of the next eight rounds to close the gap to a single round. Riot Squad were unable to take the series to a third map as Complexity answered back by winning the next three rounds to close out the map 16-12.

The final series of the day went the distance with ATK narrowly besting eUnited 2-1 to secure their spot in the semifinals.

Starting the action on Inferno, ATK shocked eUnited as they dominated on their T-side, claiming a 12-3 scoreline at the half. Following this, ATK cleaned up, securing the 16-6 win without much trouble.

On Overpass, eUnited finally got into the series as they played a close half with ATK to narrowly win their CT-side 8-7. Following this, eUnited had their chance to dominate as they quickly secured the map 16-8.

With the series tied up, ATK and eUnited played another close half on Dust2, before ATK pulled ahead by winning the last three rounds in a row to take the half 9-6.
