Twistzz says that FaZe was "relieved" to make Legends Stage
Following FaZe's qualification to the BLAST.tv Paris Major Legends Stage, Arnie Petty spoke to Russel "Twistzz" Van Dulken about FaZe's route to the Legends Stage and the team's takeaways from their earlier loss to ENCE and what it all means for one of the best teams in the world.
Congratulations, FaZe have ended 3-1, what are your initial thoughts on that?
Relieved. Happy with how we played today despite it being closer than we wanted it to be. We started off pretty dominant but yeah we're all relieved.
You picked Nuke against FORZE today after losing it yesterday against ENCE. What changed to allow you to pick up the win on the map today?
That's how you know a team has had an off day. When they're still comfortable picking the same map that they lost the day before, that signals the team is still confident and they didn't show their true selves the day before. It's very unusual that we only get one gun round on CT-side, this has never happened in our team's history. Nuke is not an issue for us.
Aleksandr "zorte" Zagodyrenko is one of the highest-rated players at this event. How do you go about countering someone in such good form?
We don't focus on countering the AWP specifically, we thought about how they play as a team. On Overpass and Nuke they have this double lurk situation going on where they have a 2-1-2 default on either side of the map and it's just about catching them off in their default and we were pretty successful in doing that on our CT-sides.
Håvard "rain" Nygaard was a monster on Overpass and you had a great game on Nuke as well, do you feel like your team's individuals are stepping up at the right time?
I think so for sure. It's about finding ourselves in the game. Sometimes I feel like I'm not doing much shooting, I'm doing other things in game and I have to get into the mindset that I'm here to shoot and I need to take more duels and go for things. Too many situations where I'd rather pull the nade rather take the head-on fights and that's not good. A lot of us feel that way in the team, it's about having the confidence to over peek and play.
You saw rain on Overpass he didn't care how many times he peeked, he kept peeking and it works.
A lot of players talk about the pressure of being the best team in the world. Do you think the shaky results you had coming into the Major helped to alleviate that pressure?
Not really because when you come from a bootcamp you always want to have the best results possible and the most clean result possible. If anything these results show us that we still have things to work on, real issues, that we have to overcome.
What's the plan now that FaZe have the next few days off?
Practice and fixing our mistakes and be happy as a team, maybe go see France a little bit.
