floppy on his sticker: "It's a little sus"
The BLAST.tv Paris Major is just a few hours away and teams are polishing strategies, getting comfortable with the new environment surrounding their hotel and the arena, and, overall, getting ready for the last ever CS:GO Major.
Dust2.us' staff is in Paris to bring you exclusive content during the competition and even before it begins. Today, Dust2.us' Editor-in-Chief Ryan Friend, caught up with Ricky "floppy" Emery and they talked about the meaning of being one of only two North American rosters in Paris, the expectations for Complexity going into the tournament, and floppy's suspicious sticker.
Complexity's campaign up to Paris has seen some highs and some lows. An almost-qualification for BLAST Spring Finals, a top-8 finish in IEM Katowice after qualifying through the Play-in, and getting a spot in the Americas RMR showed very good signs of improvement, but a 21-28th finish in ESL Pro League Season 17, an early exit in Spring Showdown, and a poor showing in ESL Challenger Melbourne have worried fans recently. While not totally shifting blame to it, the North American rifler argues that the traveling schedule plays a huge part in the downward momentum of the team's performance.
I don't want to blame the whole thing on traveling but, traveling definitely has an impact on it, for sure. It feels like we are just in a void sometimes, in my mind at least, with all the traveling, but it's something that we have to deal with. We are bringing in a lot of practice, and we are going to use that for the Major, and we will try to use every little bit of information we can get, so we can perform our best in this event.
Regarding his personal performance, floppy thinks this is the most competitive Major and anyone can win it, and, in order to have the best chance, everyone needs to just be hitting shots and no one forgets strats or nades. One teammate deserving praise for his individual performance on LANs is Håkon "hallzerk" Fjærli.
If you look at his stats, this guy's LAN stats are incredible, he shows up pretty much every single time, but regardless of his performance or the things he brings, he is just fun to be around, he has a really good attitude and we love talking to him. That definitely helps, talking about stuff that happened in each game, because sometimes you will be more tense, it's really a pleasure to have him on the team.
Complexity's opening game will be against GamerLegion, who finished 3-1 in the Europe A RMR and could have been in the Legends Stage already but lost against Bad News Eagles in the decider match. floppy and co. will not underestimate their opponents, but will play their own game, trying to take control of the match.
We are pretty sure what the veto is going to come down to, so we'll discuss again how we are going to deal with that. We are just going to treat them like any other team, we are going to respect them, obviously, they are good, they are here. We will just keep doing what we normally do against any other team, not change it up.
floppy already has some Major experience from playing in the PGL Major Antwerp 2022, but being able to play in the last ever CS:GO Major has a unique feeling.
God bless (laughs). It's really hard to describe, just seeing all the teams here as well but knowing that we are part of the two only NA squads here, it's an honor and I'm proud of it, really.
Regarding his choice for the sticker design, floppy revealed that the original design was a bit dubious and so he ran with the theme. When asked what he saw that was dubious he just said:
I think it's a little sus.
Complexity will start their campaign at the BLAST.tv Paris Major against GamerLegion, tomorrow, at 07:00AM.
