Report: Wildcard set to enter CS:GO
Dust2.us has confirmed with multiple sources that American esports organization Wildcard are set to enter CS:GO in the coming days with the signing of Detonate's current roster. It is understood that the organization, who are most known for their presence in Dota 2 and Rainbow Six: Siege have already penned contracts with the lineup and are waiting for a few final matters to be settled before making an announcement.
Wildcard were founded in early 2017 as a League of Legends organization before expanding to other titles including Dota 2, VALORANT, Apex Legends, and Rainbow Six: Siege, among others. Their esports portfolio largely focuses on North American teams, which likely motivated their decision to look towards the region in CS:GO.
The signing of Detonate comes after a recent upswing in results for the team, with the squad recently making ESL Challenger League Season 44 playoffs and regularly challenging NA's top teams in competitive series. This improvement can in part be attributed to the team's decision to bring in Keller "SLIGHT" Nilan and Joshua "m1cks" Micks at the start of 2023 to improve the team's firepower and tactical prowess.
Unfortunately, it is understood that m1cks will not be continuing with his teammates on Wildcard. m1cks told Dust2.us that he decided to step away from competition due to a mixture of exhaustion, a lack of opportunities for personal growth in the scene, and disappointment from missing the BLAST.tv Paris Major Americas RMR.
In m1cks' place, Wildcard are set to unveil Philippe "Winspai" Mølgaard Ouabaid in his place. While he is a relatively unknown coach in North America, Winspai is known in Denmark for coaching Tricked for nearly four years, including with Nicolai "HUNDEN" Petersen's roster that would go on to join MAD Lions. Winspai confirmed to Dust2.us that he has been helping the team but declined to confirm he is a permanent addition. He was recently spotted coaching Detonate during the ESL Challenger Katowice qualifiers.
Dust2.us reached out to Detonate's owner, Levoski Brown, who confirmed that Detonate are "in the process of completing a sale of the contracts for the roster to Wildcard."
Wildcard are expected to be:
-
Matthew "Cryptic" Whitmore
-
Adam "freshie" Paterson
-
Jack "micro" Ryan
-
Brett "brett" Rhein
-
Keller "SLIGHT" Nilan
-
Philippe "Winspai" Mølgaard Ouabaid (Coach)
Wildcard are expected to play their first match under their new organization on April 26th when they take on Limitless in ESL Challenger League Season 45 on April 26th.
