SK to semi-finals over Misfits; OpTic to playoffs after cruising past NRG
In an unexpected turn of events, Group B's final two matches saw Misfits and SK facing off on Cache for a semi-final slot. An assertive B push from Misfits net them the pistol round without issue, but three deagle kills from Marcelo "coldzera" David in the ensuing round had SK taking the momentum of the match into their favor immediately. The Brazilians moved up to seven rounds without an answer from Misfits, though many rounds came close between the two sides. Misfits finally found their second round off the back of Shahzeb "ShahZaM" Khan, who found three frags and clutched a one-on-two for push his team forward.
SK once again immediately answered back with a round, but this time Misfits were also able to counter SK despite their low economy. Three kills from Hunter "SicK" Mims allowed Misfits to chain two rounds together, but an incredible pop flash into A main allowed SK to convert their following eco round to put themselves up to nine rounds. The North Americans had finally found an opening in SK's setups, and they used their reads to take the final two rounds of the half.
SK dominated Misfits to take a T side pistol for themselves, moving up to 12 rounds with ease. Misfits attempted to keep themselves in the match by picking up the first gun round, but this would be the only round the North Americans would find. SK proceeded to dismantle Misfits round-by-round, finding openings in their CT setups to swiftly bring the second half to a close, winning the map 16-7.
SK move on to the semi-finals, where they will await the winner of HellRaisers versus Misfits who will face in a quarter-final matchup set to take place on Friday.
Meanwhile, NRG and OpTic were also unexpectedly facing off for the final playoff spot in Group B. Despite only practicing the map twice, OpTic chose to take on the North Americans on Cobblestone, kicking off the match on the T side. A pistol round win quickly went the way of the Europeans, but a force buy from NRG allowed them to immediately answer back.
OpTic had no intention of letting the CTs run away with the match, fighting back with a force-buy of their own to take the lead in the match once again. Two additional rounds went the way of the Europeans before NRG snagged one for themselves, but a reset followed as Kevin "HS" Tarn found three frags. Once again the Europeans built upon their lead by taking three rounds, at which point NRG took one last round for themselves. This would be the last round that the North Americans would snag on the map as OpTic gave them no other openings, closing out the match with a commanding scoreline of 16-3.
OpTic have snagged the final playoff spot from Group B for themselves, and will face fnatic on Friday in hopes to make the semi-finals of EPL.
