Complexity look to right wrongs and qualify this time around

Americas RMR viewing guide; time, format, and schedule

North America has between five to nine teams in attendance, depending how you count.

Teams from around the Americas have started flying into Monterrey, Mexico where the BLAST.tv Paris Major Americas RMR will begin on Thursday and run through Sunday. There are sixteen teams from North and South America competing in the LAN qualifier, with five teams with North American players, but nine of the teams permanently reside in North America. Each team will be fighting for one of five available spots to go to the BLAST.tv Paris Major which begins later in May.

Placements

  • 1st Place: Legends Stage

  • 2nd Place: Challenger Stage

  • 3rd Place: Contender Stage

  • 4th Place: Contender Stage

  • 5th Place: Contender Stage

Qualified Teams

For this edition of the Americas RMR, there were fourteen teams that had to qualify through two open qualifiers held in South America and North America. Two teams, FURIA and Liquid, did not have to go through the open qualifiers as they had placed well enough during the 2022 IEM Rio Major that they received direct invites to the qualifier.

Of note, Evil Geniuses did not qualify through the closed qualifier but will be headed to the Americas RMR to replace Detonate, who had to withdraw after one player fell ill and another did not receive their passport in time.

Format (it's a new one!)

There are only five spots up for grabs this time around, one less than the six spots the Americas had at the 2022 IEM Rio Major. The loss of one spot for the Americas RMR caused confusion among fans as it was unclear if the same Swiss-system format would be used in the upcoming competition. However, according to Valve's rulebook, any region with 5 to 8 invites would use the 16-team swiss bracket.

5 teams: both 3-0 teams and all three 3-1 teams.

This is just slightly different from the six team qualification bracket, which needed to utilize a tiebreaker system to determine what one team from the three 3-2 scorelines, would advance to the next round.

6 teams: both 3-0 teams, all three 3-1 teams, and one of the three 3-2 team.

  • The three 3-2 teams are first sorted by difficulty score.

  • The lower two teams play a best of 3 and the loser is eliminated.

  • The remaining two teams play a best of 3 and the loser is eliminated.

So this time around, we will see Best-of-Three matches happen for any team with one loss and every team with two wins. Best-of-ones will be used for the 0-0 and 1-0 matches.
