EG to use Blueprint squad for BLAST Showdown

The organization is set to use their development team in place of their main squad.

BLAST Premier Spring Showdown is around the corner and all of the Americas top teams are in the competition. With the roster deadline for the event right around the corner, Dust2.us has learned that EG has elected to field their academy squad, EG Black, in place of the main squad.

Additionally, as seen recently in ESL Challenger League and the ESL Challenger Melbourne qualifier, EG Black are set to field Jadan "HexT" Postma in place of Peter "stanislaw" Jarguz, further evidence that the 28-year-old Canadian is set to exit the lineup.

In looking at the Evil Geniuses camp, they have been under a lot of pressure to make a roster change, with Danish import Ismail "refrezh" Ali reportedly making a verbal agreement to replace HexT in the starting lineup. With EG already eyeing a roster change, EG likely felt throwing a moribund roster into the event was a waste of the opportunity and instead elected to give a development opportunity to their academy squad.

The full Evil Geniuses lineup playing in the BLAST Premier Spring Showdown is:

  • Canada Colby "Walco" Walsh

  • United States William "RUSH" Wierzba

  • United States Jeorge "jeorge" Endicott

  • United States Paytyn "junior" Johnson

  • Canada Jadan "HexT" Postma (Stand-in)

  • United States Tommy "Axed" Ryan (Coach)

  • United States Jerric "wiz" Jang (Substitute)

BLAST Premier: Spring American Showdown 2023 is set to start on March 29th.

I'm of the opinion that this roster is player for player better than the main EG roster. Nothing I have seen from Breeze tells me he is anywhere close to his peaks in 2019, I would take jeorge over him any day (and the intangible of "hunger" gives jeorge a plus). I think junior has a higher skill ceiling than wiz. Wiz may have a better skill floor, but what runs tier 1 EU right now? It's dominant AWP presence; and I believe junior makes his presence on the server felt more than wiz. Nealan is a good player, but why are we bogging him down with IGL duties? I'd rather have someone like Walco IGL to free up nealan to frag more consistently. RUSH is quite possibly the most undervalued anchor/support rifler ever. Certainly the best NA has produced in CS:GO at his role. The only W for the main roster is they have autimatic. Even when I watch their losses, his decision making is most consistent with tier 1. So suffice it to say: if I had to make the EG project in my own image, he would be the only piece of the main roster I keep (maybe you could convince me to keep nealan and/or wiz if there is budgetary or contractual restraints). At least to me, this EG project has been a great teaching moment; it doesn't matter how much money and time you have to throw at a project, if that project does not have a unifying vision. The backroom staff EG has acquired have the know how. So the only thing I can conclude as an outsider is that this is a case of "too many cooks in the kitchen". The best films come from a single vision; Kubrick, Tarantino, Carpenter. The best structural designs of our species are often drawn up by a single talented architect with a vision. I can keep rambling, but I think I've made my point. Knowledge is useless unless it is channeled and pointed in the right direction.
