Liquid run off
In the wake of Liquid taking down Astralis on Sunday, the team have seemingly been given a gift as they look to make a deep run in playoffs. With the prospects of facing FURIA, NAVI, or G2 in the first round and then Outsiders or ENCE in the round of twelve, ending up with paiN and MOUZ certainly seems like the easiest route into the top eight.
Liquid started off on their pick of Mirage, a comfortable pick for the squad, but also a map that paiN is relatively comfortable on. To everyone's surprise, paiN proved to be stalwarts in defense, quickly jumping to a 7-1 lead before Liquid seemed to know what hit them. The team were ineffectual to begin their T-side and only later were they able to bring back a few rounds to make it 6-9.
The second half would be even worse than the first as Liquid would win the pistol, but fail to get another round in their defense as they lost their map pick 16-7.
Now this put the Americans in dire straits as they had to play Ancient, a map they are not comfortable on at all. We knew that it was going to be bad, but to see Liquid fail to execute on the bomb site was frustrating as paiN pulled away for a 10-2 lead. Liquid were able to bring it back to a 5-10 deficit on their T-side, but that would be too little too late.
The second half would just be like the first as Liquid were unable to get much going. They would win the pistol, but unfortunately start to let their momentum slip away. paiN would penetrate the bombsites and solidify their lead en route to a 16-12 victory.
Liquid now head back to the US where they will play in the BLAST Premier Spring Showdown and then the upcoming BLAST.tv Paris Major Americas RMR in Monterrey, Mexico.
