ECL coach retires following sudden release
Off the shocking announcement that he was being relieved of his duty as head coach of Limitless’ lineup, 24-year-old Sean “Coastal” Thompson responded with even more surprising news that he would not be looking for another opportunity to coach but would in fact be retiring from competitive Counter-Strike. This announcement comes just a day after his public release from the team.
Coastal led multiple notable Advanced and ECL lineups from the coaching front during his career, with the two most prominent being Unjustified a few seasons ago, and the very promising Limitless lineup he just departed from. With Limitless, he helped build the foundation for a lineup full of promising prospects including Adam “Grizz” Golden and Josh “JBa” Barutt.
The chain of tweets surrounding his release and eventual retirement is an obvious tell that Coastal was blindsided by his removal. Making a note to the end of his team’s first season together in ECL, Coastal stated that he and the team would be going through a mental reset ahead of Relegation matches. Less than three hours later, Coastal went public with a brief tweet about his “end to Counter-Strike”. Twelve hours later, the former coach elaborated on his future following a night of rest.
Following the news, Dust2.us contacted Coastal privately to confirm the validity and seriousness of the situation, to which he confirmed his release and retirement as legitimate.
Coastal retires from Counter-Strike with 93 recorded maps on HLTV, 81 of which came under the Limitless banner. While coaching for both Unjustified and Limitless, his lineups successfully cracked the top 100 in HLTV ranking while also making it into ESL Challenger League.
