Turkey too tough
Being sent to the lower bracket was almost inevitable for Evil Geniuses, who have continued to struggle against top tier competition since their first win over Heroic. This time, the Americans were faced up against Eternal Fire, who have had their own issues through some consistent roster changes and tough international losses.
The match started on EF's pick of Anubis, which Evil Geniuses have not found any success on at all in recent times. The match was Eternal Fire's through and through as their T-side was dominant in its execution and follow through. A successful pistol round saw the Turkish squash power forward to a quick 7-1 lead as they would close out the half 11-4.
Unfortunately for the Geniuses, it was almost exactly the same sort of half once they tried their hand at attacking as they would initially claim the second-half pistol and the second round, but Eternal Fire would storm back to close out the map 16-6.
With the game transported to EG's pick of Overpass, there was hope that the Americans would be able to even up the scoreline in what was an exceptionally tough first game. That was not the indication however as Eternal Fire stormed out to a 10-1 lead to begin the first half.
Despite being down 13-2 at the half EG didnt drop a single round as a staunch defense brought the comeback into reality as they found themselves just two rounds behind at 11-13. Eternal Fire finally scrounged a round on their T side to make it 14-11, but EG wrestled back control to tie it up 14-14 and with the gun advantage. EG ended up succumbing to a classic monster pop, forced onto pistols after giving up match point the NA side couldn't hold on falling 14-16.
Evil Geniuses have one more chance as they face the loser of MIBR v. IHC Saturday morning.
