MIBR withstands Complexity to qualify for IEM Brazil
After a lengthy back-and-forth series, marred by an hour-long technical pause on the first map, MIBR bested Complexity 2-1 to secure their place at IEM Rio in two months' time. This win will be a huge boon for MIBR, who have a packed schedule ahead of them with their participation in the BLAST.tv Paris Major North America33 RMR Closed Qualifier and ESL Pro League Season 17 this month.
The all-important series kicked off after the conclusion of Complexity's match in the consolidation final, where the North American side took down paiN 2-0 to secure a revenge match against MIBR in the final. The final began on MIBR's map pick of Anubis, where the Brazilians got off to a roaring start, claiming nine of the first ten rounds to take a resounding lead. Complexity started to claw their way back at the end of the half, but MIBR still finished their T-side with a strong 11-4 scoreline.
Shortly after Complexity secured the second pistol round, the series would screech to a grinding halt as an hour-long tech pause ensued at a 12-5 scoreline. When the match finally returned to action, Complexity found themselves reinvigorated, as they began the slow crawl towards a comeback. While Complexity would go on to crack double-digit rounds, MIBR's already built-up lead proved to be too much to overcome as the Brazilians eventually closed out their pick 16-12.
Complexity found themselves in the driver's seat on their pick of Overpass after initially dropping the first pistol round, stringing together six rounds in a row on the offense to carve an early lead. MIBR would start to shore up their defense in the latter portion of the half, but Complexity still came out on top 9-6. Although Complexity's second half pistol win was immediately countered by a force-buy win from MIBR, Complexity immediately rebounded and steamed ahead to match point. MIBR were not dissuaded, putting up five rounds straight in an effort to force overtime, but Complexity eventually brought it over the line with a 16-12 scoreline.
The series would ultimately be decided on Ancient, which proved to be just as lengthy as the other two maps. MIBR managed an early lead after securing the first pistol round on the offense, but it would be Complexity to dominate the rest of the half, as the North American side secured ten rounds before switching over to the T-side. The second pistol round going the way of Complexity allowed them to push their lead even further, to 13-6, putting them a stone's throw away from IEM Rio. A stone's throw would be as close as they would get however, as MIBR put up a resilient defense, posting ten rounds straight to steal away the match from Complexity, securing them a chance to compete at home.
MIBR can look forward to IEM Rio kicking off on April 17th, but in the immediate future, they will be quite concerned with their runs in the BLAST.tv Paris Major North America RMR Closed Qualifier, beginning today, and ESL Pro League Season 17, kicking off on the 22nd.
