MIBR win final IEM Brazil Closed Qualifier spot
Day two of the second IEM Brazil Open Qualifier has wrapped up, with MIBR securing the final spot in the closed qualifier at the expense of ATK. MIBR will now join Complexity, Vendetta, and fellow countrymen paiN in a double-elimination bracket for a shot at going to IEM Brazil 2023.
MIBR kicked off day two of the open qualifier with a quick and easy victory over Peruvian side Mad Kings, besting the fellow South American side 16-2 on Ancient. This win was followed soon after by another straightforward victory, as MIBR went on to take down Mythic 16-6 on Anubis to move on to the BO3 finals.
In the finals, MIBR were set to face their first real competition of the night in the form of ATK. The international side had just come out of a narrow 16-14 win over Evil Geniuses, easily one of the favorites to win the qualifier outright. The battle between the two squads kicked off on ATK's choice of Anubis, marred by a streaky back-and-forth first half which saw MIBR edge out an 8-7 lead on the defense.
A pistol round win in the second half allowed ATK to secure the lead, but MIBR quickly rallied back with five rounds straight to put themselves a stone's throw from victory. While ATK fought back and managed to break into double-digit rounds, they were unable to halt MIBR from stealing away their map pick 16-12.
The beginning of Vertigo, in a similar fashion to Anubis, featured another first half where both squads wrestled back and forth for control of the half. Unlike on Anubis however, it would be ATK to come out narrowly in the lead with an 8-7 scoreline on the CT-side. MIBR evened things up with a second half pistol victory, and although ATK managed to secure the first gun round, MIBR would go on to post a dominant CT-side, allowing only that single round to slip away as they marched ahead to a 16-9 victory, ending the series 2-0.
With MIBR's win over ATK, the closed qualifier will consist of:
Complexity
MIBR
paiN
Vendetta
These four squads will begin their closed qualifier campaigns later this week, with the first matches slated to begin on February 15th.
