Liquid are not the top OGs
A Liquid that has not had a roster change for the first time in the Winter offseason for what feels like ever decided to come out with an interesting map pool by picking Nuke. The last time the squad had played on that map was when Jake "Stewie2k" Yup was still a focal point of that organization.
The series began on Ancient, with Liquid taking the T-side to start off with. It would be a slow half for Liquid to get accustomed back into professional gameplay as they dropped the T-side pistol, but eventually found themselves tying it up at 4-4. However, this is when OG would truly take over the map as they ran away to a 10-5 half.
With Liquid now allowed to finally play some defense, there were hopes that the Americans could bring it back and make it competitive. Things would not go Liquid's way as they would drop their second pistol of the game, leading to an even greater 13-5 deficit. Despite Liquid reclaiming one round to make it 13-6, it would be all they got as they lost OG's pick, 16-6.
Moving to the surprise pick of Nuke, the Liquid squad were keeping it as close as possible even if the K/D lines indicated otherwise. Liquid would reverse their fortunes and win their T-side pistol, but could not get the consecutive buy-rounds and would end up trading constantly with OG until a 6-6 score. With a little more luck in OG's favor, the European squad would claim their half 9-6.
On the CT-side, Liquid would immediately respond with their second pistol win en route to a six round run, pushing them ahead 12-9. However, OG would not go down easy as they would eventually tie it up at 12-12 and then claim the lead at 14-12. Liquid tried to bring it back to 14-14, but a pivotal gun round loss would seemingly force the team to lose, but Liquid would never say die as the forced an overtime.
With that overtime there was hope that Liquid would be able to continue their rally and take away a map victory to force Overpass, but the American fans would not be able to see it despite taking it into double overtime as they fall 22-20 and lose the series 2-0.
Liquid will now face Complexity in the group lower-bracket on Sunday at 12:30PM.
