Envy, Lazarus, and Riot Squad through to MSI MGA Closed Qualifier
The first qualifier for MSI MGA 2019 played out yesterday, seeing 59 North American teams participate.
Things proceeded as normal for the first two rounds of play, with the only notable matchup to speak of being Rugratz against Jasper "sfX" Ko's x1 Mob, which the MDL team won.
Rugratz' run and Tyler "tweiss" Weiss's AWPing experiment would come to an end in the Round of 16 at the hands of Riot Squad. Advanced squad Final Feature also saw their qualification chances terminated by Frost Pug, a mix featuring the core of The Quest.
In the quarterfinals, Peter "ptr" Gurney and Riot Squad got a modicum of revenge over (brief) former teammate Michael "dapr" Gulino and New Identity, while Envy took care of business against MDL hopefuls LiViD.
The semifinals saw Lazarus handily defeat Riot Squad, perhaps taking some frustration out on Pujan "FNS" Mehta. Jaccob "yay" Whiteaker dropped over thirty kills in the effort, recording a 1.95 rating.
On the other side of the bracket, Advanced team Lowkey, who were playing with Stephen "Huston" Huston in place of Paytyn "Junior" Johnson, actually put up a decent fight against Envy, but the IEM Chicago-bound team eventually triumphed.
Unfortunately for them, Lowkey's good luck and form did not continue into the third-place decider, where Riot Squad ran wild over them to secure the final qualification spot.
Interested teams still have two further chances at a spot in the MSI MGA 2019 Closed Qualifier. As always, links and information are available on the Dust2.us Calendar.
