Saints fly past EG Gold and are going to Katowice
In a closed qualifier that consisted of just one BO3 series, Saints have beaten EG Gold for a spot in the ESL Impact Katowice 2023 after both teams won one open qualifier each to get to the closed one.
The series started off well for EG Gold, winning the CT-side half of Inferno, picked by Saints, 10-5, and then closing the map 16-9. Everything was trending towards an EG Gold 2-0 win, as the Saints players didn't look good during the first map.
However, Overpass told another story. Saints managed to win the first half on the CT-side of the map 8-7, keeping EG at bay, but with a lot of work ahead of them, going into the less-favorable T-side. What followed next was an amazing half from Saints. Paula "paula" Ramanauskas managed to clutch the T-side pistol round in a 1v2 situation, and Saints just ran with the game, literally. After the pistol round, Saints resorted to the B bombsite seven times in a row, only losing one round. Of those seven attempts, six were rushes. The game ended 16-8 and Saints were back in the series.
Mirage was the perfect map to close this series. The first half had both teams being somewhat streaky but failing to keep on top, which resulted in an 8-7 score for Saints on the T-side. The second half had the same result but this time EG Gold started with seven round wins in eight possible. It seemed as if EG had used all of their gas, because after that it was Saints' game, as they answered back with seven of their own to close the map 16-14 and get their ticket to Katowice.
ESL Impact Katowice 2023 will start on February 10th and has a prize pool of $100,000.
