EliGE: "I just feel like we're the Grand Slam roster right now"
After triumphantly beating OG in a come-from-behind victory after dropping their first map, Liquid stalwart Jonathan "EliGE" Jablonowski spoke with James Banks on center-stage. In the interview, EliGE discussed the team's form, the improvement in cohesion, communication, and the introduction of Anubis. Liquid, having only dropped maps to OG and FaZe, will look to face off against the winner of G2 vs FaZe tomorrow morning.
EliGE, you've done it! The second grand final appearance of this year; how does that feel?
It feels amazing. That was such a good game from us. It feels really good to be at this form again and yeah, it was just awesome.
When it comes to Overpass, which was your pick, it was a close affair. When we look at Inferno, it's been a great map for you for a long time. Did you have full confidence after that or doubt that you might lose to OG?
No, I think we had a lot of confidence the whole time. I think that we've just had really good reads the entire tournament and against OG. We feel really good in the macro. Everyone was hitting shots and playing incredible and our communication just never faltered. We said that this was almost exactly like how it was against Outsiders where we almost made the comeback on the first map, and then we're just gonna dominate the second one and win the third, and that's what we did.
Now, lets talk about Anubis, the new map on the cards here. We enjoy watching it, you guys seem to be enjoying playing it, but do you not think it's a bit risky as people start to figure it out?
I don't think so. I think every team thinks that they're Anubis gods right now. We all think that we have something special and everyone's getting punished left and right like we did against FaZe. I think it's a really fun map and it plays better than some of the other maps do right now and I think that because we had two maps on it already this tournament we felt more comfortable that we could fix the mistakes FaZe exploited against us and came out with a better game plan.
For you, you've been on Liquid for so long, we saw you with the peaks and it's been a long journey up. YEKINDAR comes in and we start to see this Liquid fired up. What does it feel like for you at the moment? Do you feel like we're finally getting back to potentially lifting up that trophy cometomorrow?
100%! Ever since Mareks joined, I just feel like we're the Grand Slam roster right now. We're so close to it. We're playing super good, our comms are great. Obviously we still have a lot more work to do, but all the pieces are there. We just have to keep acting on it, keep improving it, and we're gonna win these tournaments.
EliGE and the Liquid crew are in high spirits as they look to end the year on a high with a Grand Final appearance at the BLAST World Final in Abu Dhabi. Liquid will be playing against the victor of FaZe vs G2 tomorrow morning at 05:00AM.
