Liquid takes a step back
With the guarantee of a playoffs presence going into today, Liquid wanted more, as a win against FaZe would mean a ticket straight to the semifinals.
Despite winning the first map, things didn't hold up for the rest of the series, with FaZe coming back and winning it all.
The map veto had Liquid picking Mirage, FaZe picking Inferno, and Anubis being left out if needed.
Mirage started out with the North Americans taking a commanding 7-1 lead but losing some gas and letting FaZe get closer by the half which ended with an 8-7 score for Liquid. The second half was similar, with FaZe opening with a 7-3 split, but Liquid managing to close the map after that with a 16-14 score.
The first half of Inferno didn't go too well for Liquid, as FaZe was able to open up with an 11-4 lead. With all things to do on the T-side, Liquid only managed to get one more round on the board, with FaZe taking the win 16-5 and leaving everything to be decided in Anubis.
The start of Anubis didn't look better, as FaZe continued looking stronger. The European mix and Russel "Twistzz" Van Dulken only lost three rounds in the first half with Liquid on the T-side. The second half had a different story, as Liquid managed to get five straight before FaZe got their 13th. After some trading of rounds, Liquid found themselves playing against match point with less fire power. That proved to be too much, as FaZe took the map 16-9 and the series 2-1.
Liquid now has to wait for Heroic vs. NAVI, and will play the winner of that series on Sunday 06:30AM.
