Complexity Cash Cup Kings
Looking to wind down after returning from the Elisa Masters event in Espoo, Finland, Complexity competed in the recent ESEA Autumn Cash Cup 4, where the team claimed first place against ATK. This was by no means a cakewalk for the squad, as their games against EG Black and ATK in the semifinals and finals respectively went all three maps, requiring some effort from the side of Complexity.
After besting Iron Blood in the quarterfinals, powered by Håkon "hallzerk" Fjærli's 1.33 rating in spite of playing the event from Norway, Complexity squared off against a new-look Evil Geniuses Black in the semifinals. Despite another strong showing from hallzerk on 100+ ping alongside Johnny "JT" Theodosiou, Complexity found themselves unable to snatch EG Black's pick of Mirage away, as Peter "stanislaw" Jarguz's men locked down the map 16-13 to start the semifinal.
New addition to EG Black Jeorge "jeorgesnorts" Endicott was the player to watch on the second map, Nuke, as the former Nouns rifler kept his squad neck-a-neck with Complexity with a 1.35 rating. Despite jeorgesnort's best efforts, Complexity were able to narrowly claim their map pick 16-14 to take the series to an Overpass decider.
Despite coming out ahead in the first half on Overpass with a 9-6 scoreline, Evil Genius Black were unable to contend on their CT-side as Complexity claimed ten of the twelve rounds played in the second half to finish the map 16-11, securing their grand final spot.
Complexity found themselves facing ATK in the grand finals, with the former squad notably utilizing Ian "motm" Hardy despite his split with the team earlier in the week. The final began on Mirage at ATK's behest, where Complexity managed a comfortable 10-5 lead on the defense thanks to Michael "Grim" Wince's 1.58 CT-side rating. Unfortunately for Complexity, 10-5 would prove to be not enough, as Michael "Swisher" Schmid, Gareth "MisteM" Ries, and Rhys "Fadey" Armstrong put up impeccable showings on the defense to allow ATK to snatch Mirage out of Complexity's hands.
Scorned by their narrow loss on Mirage, Complexity were back with a vengeance for the remainder of the series. Grim and JT put up monstrous ratings on their team's pick of Overpass, with 1.79 and 1.68 ratings respectively, leading Complexity to a straightforward 16-6 victory on their pick. The decider map of Ancient proved to be almost as dominant for Complexity as Overpass, as Grim posted another phenomenal 1.78 rating to fuel Complexity's 16-8 victory on Ancient, securing the squad the $9,000 grand prize.
The final standings for the fourth Autumn Cash Cup are:
1. Complexity - $9,000
2. ATK - $4,000
3. MIBR - $2,000
4. Evil Geniuses Black
5-8. Vendetta
5-8. Nouns
5-8. Iron Blood
5-8. oNe + LOS
