eUnited win Mythic Cup 3
eUnited have taken Mythic Cup 3 after a 2-0 victory over Singularity in the grand finals of the event. The ESL Pro League team did not drop a single map en route to the title.
The second day of the tournament began with eUnited taking on Party Astronauts, after ex-Zone so graciously relinquished their spot in the semifinals, as well as one of their players. The eventual champions didn't start off on the right foot, ceding eleven rounds to Party Astronauts on Overpass before they switched to their own CT-side. Kicking it into gear, Austin "Cooper" Abadir and co. fought back to bring the map into overtime, which they would then sweep, taking the opener 19-15.
Dust2 was a close affair as well, with Party Astronauts also leading at the half. Once again, the side switch also saw a switch in fortunes in the favor of eUnited, as they began to chip away at their opponent's lead. As lamented by Ian "motm" Hardy after the match, Party Astronauts are "just not ready yet" when it comes to stacking up against Pro League rivals.
The second semifinal saw Singularity face off against Tyson "TenZ" Ngo and ATK. This was a slightly more straightforward series, as the American side led both maps nearly the entire way through. It was Josh "oSee" Ohm and Cameron "hydrex" Kern pulling double-duty for Singularity throughout, with the aforementioned TenZ leading the way for ATK.
This set up the grand final between Singularity and eUnited, with Singularity looking to take their second Mythic Cup title. Things got off to a poor start for the MDL team, however, as Kaleb "moose" Jayne and eUnited absolutely battered them to the tune of 16-2 on Overpass.
Nuke was a better showing for Singularity, as they put up an admirable seven rounds on their Terrorist side, and won their CT-side pistol to open up a 10-8 lead. But eUnited were not to be deterred, and put up six rounds in a row to go up 14-10, before finally sealing the map, series, and tournament with a 16-13 victory.
