Evil Geniuses comfortably dominate
For the first time in four seasons, Evil Geniuses have won a matchup in ESL Pro League. The squad, continuing to feature EG Black move-up Jaden "HexT" Postma who showed his strength against top-tier competition, not only won their matchup but did so easily. Many expected the Eternal Fire side to comfortably defeat the Seattle-based organization, however, they could not put together an effusive offense.
The match started out on Evil Geniuses' pick of Overpass, where despite losing the pistol, jumped out to an immediate 6-2 lead on their T-side. Overpass, being such a CT-sided map, meant that this early advantage would only provide good fortune for a team that has not had much luck on their side in recent memory. Several crucial executes and close rounds in the first half meant that the NA-majority team would take a 9-6 lead at the half after some late heroics from the Eternal Fire team.
Once the sides switched, EG only continued their dominance on Overpass by winning the pistol and the next four rounds to make it a 14-6 half. Eternal Fire was breathing down the necks of the squad after winning two gun rounds, however, Sanzhar "neaLaN" Iskhakov's men responded with an eco CT-side round win and closed out the map 16-9.
Everything was looking EG's way, except for the looming Dust2 which the squad was dominated when they played against Cloud9 and Liquid. However, this would not be the same script. There is not much to say about the first half of Dust2 except for EG provided a defense that would make America proud. They would only give up three rounds as they finished the half 12-3. EG would end up winning their ninth pistol of Pro League so far as they comfortably closed out the match, 16-4.
Evil Geniuses will be looking to use the momentum coming off this win when they take on the winless Movistar Riders tomorrow at 06:30AM. The Spanish squad has looked shaky so far, so this provides the perfect opportunity for EG to continue in their winning ways.
