neptune reveals he is 15
American player Jason "neptune" Tran was born in 2002, despite claiming previously that he was born in 2001, teammate Andrew "ShoT_UP" Orlowski revealed on Twitter. Screenshots of the team's group chat show that neptune claims that he was unaware of his own age, and upon learning that he was a year younger than he had thought, he told his team.
This gives a possible explanation for why neptune never played in the ESL Pro League when he was a member of the main Ghost squad. When the team qualified for EPL in May, neptune was thought to be 15, which is below the age cutoff to play in the league. Initially, the team had Phong "bee" Nguyen stand in until he turned 16.
However, after turning 16, the player never played any games for Ghost, and transferred to Nitrious and played in MDL. In fact, neptune was never a part of Ghost's EPL roster at all. Former Ghost player Ronnie "ryx" Bylicki tweeted that the revelation of neptune's true age might explain this oddity, though this would mean the player and his teammates knew about it all along.
As ESEA does not have any age restricitons on playing in their leagues, neptune is able to play in MDL, and will be able to attend the Global Challenge LAN with Ghost Academy. He will need to wait until his birthday in just under a year however before he is able to play in EPL in any capacity.
neptune actually participated in an open Qualifier for ESL One Cologne 2017, where his team lost to ownage. Since all ESL events carry the same age restrictions, it means that the then-15-year-old broke ESL's rules. Whether or not any response will be given by ESL is not known.
It is unknown exactly who knew of neptune's true age, including ESL and the Ghost organization, but with this information coming to light, many of the odd or shady occurrences with this core of players could be explained.
neptune declined to comment.
