Rogue replacing wrath; seek emergency roster move for EPL relegation
Collin "wrath" McSweegan is on his way out of Rogue, sources close to the team confirm. The move comes at the conclusion of a disappointing Pro League Season for the team, which saw them finish in thirteenth position, making it necessary for them to play relegation matches in order to maintain their spot in the league.
According to a source, wrath's removal has been "a long time coming," and stemming from issues involving everything from communication issues to general game sense and judgement. When in-game leader Josh "shinobi" was briefly benched from the team in late October, that decision allegedly came down from the organization.
The departure of wrath would leave Rogue with the following roster:
- Josh "shinobi" Abastado
- Daniel "vice" Kim
- Spencer "Hiko" Martin
- Casper "cadiaN" Møller
- Garett "Grt" Bambrough (Coach)
The move does not come as a surprise, as wrath has already been seen playing with Ghost in their final matches of the ECS season, as well as the qualifier for DreamHack Open Winter.
What the move does do, however, is leave Rogue with undesirable options for the ESL Pro League relegation tournament, as upon hearing of his benching and Rogue's trying out of players including Ronnie "ryx" Bylicki and FRENCH CANADIANS duo Yassine "Subroza" Taoufik and Anthony "gMd" Guimond, wrath refused to play for the team.
With wrath not being willing to play, or perhaps potentially not giving his full effort in the event that he does play, Rogue would be looking at having to field coach Grt or EPL substitute Michael "Uber" Stapells — the latter of whom has not logged an official match since early September.
Dust2.us has learned that Rogue have asked WESA for an emergency roster transfer, similar to the one Immortals were granted during the regular season. The relevant rule allowing this is found in section 1.6 of the WESA Transfer Regulations:
In the event of extraordinary circumstances, a Team can petition the League for a third Transfer outside of the Transfer Window (an “Emergency Exchange”). An Emergency Exchange can be granted (or rejected) in the League’s sole discretion
after reviewing each case individually. If granted, the Emergency Exchange will carry the stipulation that it will be allowed to occur only if the Team also simultaneously removes a previously added player from the roster, so that no Team at any time shall have more than two Players that were not part of the roster at the beginning of the season. The League shall have the right to impose other restrictions or conditions as it sees fit in light of the circumstances of said emergency. The Team requesting the Emergency Exchange shall furnish to the League all pertinent information concerning the circumstances of the emergency requested by the League in order for the League to consider the request.
Given that Rogue currently carry two eligible players on their roster in the forms of Grt and Uber, it seems unlikely that the request will be granted.
