Liquid get one match closer to the LANXESS
Once again starting off as the first match of the day, Liquid faced their toughest test of the event so far against #4 World Ranked Cloud9 who are coming off a recent victory at IEM Dallas. Liquid looked to still be finding their feet with Mareks "YEKINDAR" Gaļinskis who has had his ups and downs with the team so far. This time it seemed different as Liquid took control over the matchup and advanced with a 2-0 victory against the Russians.
The game started out on Liquid's map pick of Dust2, where the Americans were able to jump out to an immediately dominant lead dropping only one round in the first eleven played. Josh "oSee" Ohm certainly ate his Wheaties this morning as he saved Liquid from a potentially scary comeback from Cloud9, who were able to close the lead to 12-11 at one point. However, Nick "nitr0" Cannella's men were able to rally together and close out the map 16-11.
The game then moved on over to Vertigo where Liquid continued their momentum by taking an 8-3 lead on their CT-side despite losing the opening pistol round. Cloud9 seemed to quickly recover and closed the half 9-6, giving themselves a chance to secure their own map after the sides switched. However, this was not to be the case. Liquid seemed to recover from their pistol debacle yesterday and secured the second half, T-side pistol to put them in prime position to close out the series. After a few back and forth rounds, Liquid were firmly in the driver's seat and never let off the gas en-route to a 16-9 victory.
Liquid will not await the victor of the FURIA v. Spirit matchup to determine who they will play for a shot at the quarterfinals and a place in the LANXESS Arena.
